A Wonderful Mommy, A Birthday and A Purpose Project Completed.

Happy Mother's Day to my wonderful Mommy!
I miss her very much as she is the other side of the world and I only see her a few times a year at most.
She has taught me so much about love, life, faith, patience and relationships.
Walked me through some really tough seasons of life and been there for me to call day and night when I needed someone.
She's awesome! And I am so thankful I am her daughter.

I apologize for not being around much here. To say life has been crazy is a little understatement.
Its as though life suddenly spun on its axis in the last month and I've been holding on for dear life.
We are moving this next week into our more permanent home (can I hear a unanimous woohoo!) so every spare moment is spent trying to pack our home again ready to move on Saturday.
But this past Friday I celebrated a fun year with my gorgeous best friend and other half.
Birthday decorations. Free Starbucks. ManiPedi. DIY Magazine.
Dozen red roses. Walk near harbor. Dinner together.
Pretty perfect day.
So thankful.

But while I'm updating.....

Here's how the Purpose Project 5k run went.

Our awesome team before the race. Not sure why I made a dorky pose haha.

My time for the race was even with my high school record.
So even though I didn't beat it. Thanks to this project I am at least back in shape again!
Which I couldn't be happier about.
Oh and just in case you were curious, the uni brow did wash off ;)
Although my hair still has a slight pink tint to it.

Much Love & THANKYOU so much to all my amazing sponsors!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i love the mountains.

i'm not sure what it is about them. maybe the fact that there aren't any in michigan, where i live. maybe because there's some sort of mystery surrounding their existence. maybe because there's a story buried deep in their hearts, some testament to all they've seen hidden beneath the weathered faces they present to us.

i've always believed mountains can be moved, that even with small faith, the power of God will make an insurmountable piece of earth get out of our narrow paths. i've seen Him work that miracle in my own life.

on a friday in late may, after a talk with L about plans to go to influence, Jesus laid a need strongly on my heart.

"i can't do that," i said to Him. "i don't think that would work."

but it wouldn't go away and i debated it all the way home.

that sunday i went to church.

there are times when the Lord speaks, and there are times when the Lord SPEAKS. and this was one of those latter times. everything in that service confirmed the calling He'd laid on my heart the friday before, and i cried the ugly cry in my overwhelm. and despite every argument i'd laid at His feet then, i obeyed.

i've always believed mountains can be moved.

i just never knew that sometimes, the mountain could be me.

Sloth {Guest Post by Chelsea}

Hey Ladies, As my house and life are still a little chaotic....
I am leaving you with a couple of AMAZING guest posters this week.
Enjoy! And I will be back up and running this weekend hopefully.
Much Love,
L

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My students and I have been studying through Seven Daily Sins by Jared C Wilson in our Bible study. It has been quite a convicting and insightful journey!

One thing that really struck me was when we studied Sloth.

No, not that sloth! Funny though, yes?
(if you haven't watched this video, watch it pronto and try not to laugh so hard you cry.)

Sloth is a sin that mirrors the inactivity of sloths.
Sloth is laziness to the point of apathy.

As we studied this, I began really meditating on the difference between rest and sloth. Rest is good, refreshing and a commandment! Sloth is a practice that leads us away from our purpose. It's not just leaving the dishes in the sink for the next day. It's not just skipping your workout jog for a nap. Sloth is an attitude behind our actions that refuses to care about the work for which we're responsible.

Scripture warns against sloth over and over again. It's nearly impossible to flip through the Proverbs without coming across such a verse.

Proverbs 18:9
"A lazy person is as bad as someone who destroys things."

Proverbs 10:26
26 "As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is a sluggard to those who send him."

Proverbs 15:19
19 "The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway."

It is apparent that God created us all with a specific purpose, to do specific work- to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, to demonstrate the love of the Father to those around us in whichever ways we are gifted.

Colossians 3:23
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."

Ephesians 2:10
"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

As we embrace our purpose, putting God's desires for our lives above our own desires, we must remember the important of rest. Rest is not solely physical. While sleep is vital for our health, God desires that we spiritually rest in Him. Beyond the adequate eight hours of sleep per night (ha!) we have a deeper need for finding our rest, solace, peace in the Lord.

Here are some practical ways that I remember to avoid sloth and embrace rest.

Avoid sloth:
- set a consistent schedule for waking and sleeping
- plan a daily time to spend alone with the Lord
- attitude check- think of chores or undesirable tasks as "working for the Lord"
- create a list of things to do for the day and carry over for the week as needed

Embrace Rest:
- set a consistent schedule for waking and sleeping
- plan a daily time to spend alone with the Lord
- Practice Sabbath- set aside one day a week not to do any work. Since my Sundays are pretty hectic I usually set aside Thursdays.
- Outside from regular quiet time practice meditation on the scripture, solitude, and attend at least one church service/small group that I am not teaching.

Priorities {Guest Post by Courtney from Baxtron Life}

Finding balance in my life
has always been a
challenge.

I'm the kind of person that takes on a lot,
even when maybe
I shouldn't.

I know I'm not superwoman,
and
I know how to say
"No."

It often seems that
just when I think I have everything
under control
something always
tips the scale
in the other direction.

But, the truth
lies in my
priorities.

Often when things feel like
chaos,
I find that I've allowed my priorities to
shift out of their rightful order.

I've stopped
keeping the first thing
first.

Lately,
it's been
Writing, Family, then God.
And it's not working
for me.

by Andrea Brancaccio
I know what I must do.
I've discovered the
secret:

Time spent
with
God
is time
multiplied.

When my priorities are right
there is
harmony.

When there is harmony,
there is
rest.

Is your life in balance
or are you
struggling
amidst the chaos?

The Lord says:
"Come to me,
all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and
my burden is light."
Matthew 11:28-30

Guest Post: Elise from Dear Family.

5 years ago, I quit. I took off my pointe shoes, folded up my tights and leotard, and thought I would never look back. When I had started ballet, 8 years earlier, I thought this would be my career path - I would dance until I could dance no more. At age 15, I decided that I would no longer pursue becoming a principle dancer. I felt the Holy Spirit speaking to me to join in work in other countries and pursue missionary work with my life. So I gave up, what I thought was selfish, laying down my talent to race after Jesus.
I am a ballerina, not by profession, but by personality. In everything, I try to be graceful, strong, confident and passionate. I am kinesthetic and almost always moving.
Many days I am sad that I quit, always wondering "what if" I had continued? What if I danced professionally for a few years? What if?
I have shed a few tears thinking about this.
Just today, as I'm writing this, the Lord reminded me of what the past five years have looked like. Reminding me of things that I would not have done, had I continued in dance. Experiences living in New York, sacrificing sleep, comfort and space to create a change in the city. I moved there with a few other people, with one goal, to show love and hope to the children of God. He reminded me of my wonderful marriage and my husband's love for serving and Jesus. He reminded me of Africa, and my sweet little ones, who's names are written on my heart forever.

Now I have rekindled my relationship with dance. We are together yet again. The Lord reminded me of my talent and passion and that I can use it for his glory, even in missions! We have a new goal in mind: A missionary dance school! I have been training really diligently for 6 months to audition for this school and just sent in my audition tape.. eek! And will continue training even harder.

What are you pursuing right now? A dream? Something like me that doesn't seem attainable?
What things can you change to get there?

I blog over at Dear Family, if you would like to say hi!

Oh happy day....a new sponsor way.

Have you guys met
Nicole from Living with Fletch?

I have been reading her blog for a while now....from when her and Fletch were engaged.
{See engagement pics here and here. Cause everyone loves to see gorgeous photo sessions}
I regularly read her blog just before they were married, I was totally in love with their library session engagement pictures. Seriously....I love books that much.

Then of course swooned over their wedding pictures. I was in love with Nicole's dress, she made such a stunning bride right?

Then after they were married, I was definitely a regular reader.
She taught me how to curl my hair properly here.
She also was the first one to show me Kristen Bell's Sloth meltdown video {here if you haven't seen it yet}.

Nicole has such seriously awesome taste in fashion and continually keeps me entertained with stories about her and Fletch's married life {here, here and here}.

Oh and if you haven't heard about the cornify app for chrome see here

Nicole is also hopelessly in love with Disney.
So we're lifelong friends now =)

Oh and did I mention she happens to be my newest sponsor.

You guys should seriously head over and say hi.
I think you'll like what you see.

Much Love,
L
