Passion By Louie Giglio & others: A Book Review.

I should really add a tab on my sidebar for all these book reviews. I just can't help it, I'm currently devouring books like a small kid on Halloween with candy. Maybe a note to self for after my desk is no longer in boxes to remember the little tab. Moving is probably why I'm reading so much, probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense to most. But its because all my craft things are in boxes, and in the evenings when I'm done working on the house for the day, I have been reading to relax before falling into a deep deep sleep. Maybe its more like passing out from exhaustion, I'm not sure.

After my last review, I was determined to pick something nonfiction this time. Unless a great fiction one comes along, I may just have to stick with reviewing some nonfiction. I've discovered I'm really picky when it comes to fiction, not a fan of historical fiction but then some are ok. Not a huge fan of the bridal stories but again some are ok. So when I saw the list of authors on this nonfiction book, I was pretty sure we had a winner.

I have heard of the Passion conference & our church even sends a group of students or has in the past anyway. We we unable to go and I never lived here as a student, but I was interested to hear about the conference since I respect a lot of the speakers as individuals. I was impressed.

The book is a collection of talks from the conference itself over the years, and is a great encouragement giving so much food for thought. I will probably come back and read parts of this book again just to glean more wisdom from the pages. Due to the different authors within the book, some of the talks are heavier and harder to read than others, but all of them had really good things to say and will encourage you not to grow complacent in your faith and purpose here on earth.

“You must come alive to the overarching purpose of the entire universe—which is the glory of God.”
- Louie Giglio

“What matters is that you fall in love with Jesus and with His love for you. And when you do, you will find that He becomes your source of happiness, not what you do or where you go.”
- Louie Giglio

“What if He asks your generation to sow the seed, but another generation reaps the harvest?

Would the seed still be worth sowing?”

- Beth Moore

“Don’t be afraid to fail. You have more than a safety net beneath you. You have the arms of God around you.”
- Louie Giglio

“Very few people have ever said to me, or shown me what I’ve now seen in the Bible, that God chose me for his glory.”

- John Piper

'" want to beg you to not just study the Bible, but to tremble at the very words of God."
- Francis Chan

"Change comes in our lives, not through amazement of many distractions in our lives but by quietly pondering & meditating on Him."
- Beth Moore

All of the talks were solid in biblical teaching with scripture used throughout. All appropriate and applicable to anyone reading, not just for college students although the conference is geared towards that audience. The stats in the book are about colleges across the nation, but you get the idea of what the speakers are saying. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to read some solid teaching. It will encourage you, yet also stand on your toes. But who doesn't want a little kick up the butt from time to time right?

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this novel through BookLook, however all opinions expressed are my own.

The Truth about Hope Spoken.

Its been eighteen months already since I went to my first blogging conference. So far its been the only blog conference I've been too, and it was a bumpy start. A lot of overwhelmed feelings, a bad wave of illness hit while I was there and just a lot to take in. It took me a good six months to begin processing a lot of things which came from that conference. I'm not sure that I ever fully shared all my thoughts on being in Indianapolis and things I learned. But it was amazing in that it broke me in a lot of waves, it pulled away layers of insecurities and sin in my life which needed to be dealt with. It was incredible, even if I didn't think it at the time.

So I had the opportunity literally paved by the Lord for me to attend Hope Spoken this year. I shared previously on some thoughts on why I felt after much prayerful consideration that this was just clearly the conference I should attend this year. Even though it was painful to watch everyone head there when the Lord had clearly said no. And He still floored me with His grace as I felt as though I was there in a way anyway.
Financially this time for Hope Spoken, He just provided from roommates, to rides, to a sweet girl selling her conference ticket, just all those little insignificant details just fell into place and I feel so at peace about going to Dallas. Quite different already as I was a nervous wreck about Influence right before going.

So I guess this is me just being honest. I'm a little scared about heading to a place full of women I don't know yet. But also I trust Him who has led me to this point, and I can't wait to see several amazing women who I have met previously and those I haven't but who have blessed me ridiculously through this online community already. Several of them I have waited years to finally meet & I couldn't be more thrilled!

So I want to take a moment and introduce you to the amazing ladies that are my roomies. Given how the Lord has worked out all the details for this trip so far, I can't believe these incredible women He has handpicked to speak into my life over the weekend.
I am excited! Because they are awesome!

Small Tip: If there is one thing I learned from my mistakes last time, its that it is a good idea to head over to the linkup and make an effort to get to know people who are going beforehand. It makes connecting so much more impactful & may even help with feeling overwhelmed about not knowing anyone. So I am totally all over that this week.

Now I just hope that my new bag & business cards arrive in time. Eeeek!

Hope Spoken.

It's funny how the Lord works isn't it? When He closed the door & gave me a firm no about attending the Influence Conference, I wasn't sure if the door was going to be closed for Hope Spoken.
Well the doors just keep opening for this Midwest girl to head to Dallas in March to attend Hope Spoken
(Even though Influence was in the Midwest & the far more convenient choice)

So today I am linking up with all the precious ladies who will be heading down south for this encouraging conference.

Introduce yourself:
Hey friends! My name is Lisa Elle (although in this space I usually go by L). I am the voice behind the thoughts here at All Glorious Within. Sharing my walk with the Lord and hoping to encourage others in the process. You can find a lot of life, faith & dreams and passions here as I unpack pursuing them and trying to live life as a one-in-a-million for the Lord.

Something that you are little timid or nervous about for the weekend:
I found out last year that I am a total introvert when it comes to big gatherings of women. So I am nervous about feeling overwhelmed while there. Praying that this doesn't hinder by ability to meet precious friends and really learn about a lot of things I am passionate about while there.

Something that you are hoping to take away from Hope Spoken:
Encouragement and an overwhelming sense of love by God. To really hear from Him over the weekend about why He wants me there. To meet with some precious friends I have already connected with & to meet several new precious kindred spirits I may never have come across before.

Share something fun/random about yourself:
I am British by birth, Midwestern by culture and grew up in continental Europe & the Middle East. But I have a total american accent so you probably wouldn't guess this by meeting me!

Much Love!
